Trading Maple Leaves for Palm Trees: Our Canada to Punta Cana Escape in November

Family Vacation, November 2021

Forget the cozy sweaters and crackling fireplaces, this November, our family traded Canadian briskness for Caribbean bliss with a trip to the sun-drenched shores of Punta Cana. We were lured by the promise of turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and endless sunshine, and let me tell you, Punta Cana did not disappoint!

Many of you know that we had to be back on the Canadian side and not in the US in order to continue with our Green Card process…With living in a hotel and everything still shutdown due to covid, we decided to travel to Punta Cana!

Hotel Riu Palace Bávaro

Settled on the Arena Gorda Beach in the Dominican Republic, this resort boost a 24 hour all inclusive, 600 room hotel with many activities, several pools, a large waterpark and an ocean front beach wonderful for watching the setting sun.

We were staying in a jr. suite with garden view and our son was not impressed when he saw the bathtub in the main area of the room and not behind a door…His first remark “we are not using that”, we found this funny of course. The rest of room was a normal resort room, bed, patio area with chairs, etc. We did notice that some of the outlets were loose or did not work – other than that, our room was clean and comfortable.

The resort as a whole was truly wonderful and everything we needed to unwind and relax! The pool at our resort was a long and curvy allowing us to feel spread out from the other guests. The beach was amazing with soft sands and warm waters, we never a problem getting a beach chair and spend many hours there listening to the waves on the beach.

The Food: Delicious, full of flavor, hot, and never ending! The buffet offers an abundance of foods to satisfy even your pickiest eaters, while the restaurants offer different cuisines including Italian, Japanese and a Steakhouse.

Tip: If you enjoy pina coladas, ask for it to be made with dark rum…so much better!

After a full day of walking the beach, splashing in the pool and enjoying our drinks and yummy eats, we would relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the evening entertainment. The jazz player and the Michael Jackson impersonator were absolutely wonderful! Even the kids shows prior to ours were entertaining.

All in all if you are looking for a budget friendly family vacation, for us, this checked all the boxes – we all enjoyed our time together as a family.

Please let us know if you would like more information or if you had a different experience here, we would love to hear from you!
